Ottawa panhandlers, street people and Anarchists take to the streets

The protesters have four demands:

-police have to stop giving out tickets to street people that are invalid and often are disregarded in court.

-police have to stop the beatings of street people.

-that the certain pigs named in the complaints who are frequently beating the homeless be fired immediately.

-that the charges be dropped for a 15 year old who was kidnapped by plainsclothes 3 days after the last actions on May Day (http://ottawa.indymedia.org/en/2006/04/2429.shtml).

Today the march went from the human rights monument to the rideau centre and then to the police station. The number of police GREATLY outnumbered that of the demonstrators. Once at the police station the protesters were greeted by SWAT units who surrounded and intimidated them. One person was arrested for "disturbing the peace by swearing".
